Pride shot

This afternoon we attended a friend’s gay pride parade party. He lives right along the parade route so we were able to watch from his living room window. One of the attendees had made these jell-o shots. He actually made seven different-colored flavors of jell-o and took the time to layer them. Impressive.

My CSA begins

My CSA started this week. I am very excited. My share comes from Chubby Bunny farm in Connecticut. Above is what I picked up on Tuesday: (clockwise from leftmost bowl) salad greens, arugula, spinach, broccoli rabe, breakfast radishes, mint, strawberries, Mutsu apples. I can’t wait to cook up the greens, and maybe even make some strawberry ice [...]

Breakfast by Dave

Boys, when left to their own devices, will eat like boys. I heard Dave frying some eggs in the kitchen this morning, expecting him to come out with his usual weekend breakfast of eggs and toast. Dave and I were running to meet my mom this afternoon and didn’t have time for a sit-down lunch. Instead, we headed to the basement of Odakyu department store and each found a lunch box we liked.

On our way to Hakone — to bathe in the hot springs and feast on traditional food — we stopped here to stock up for the train ride. Japanese bakeries are amazing wonderlands of excess. You grab a tray and a pair of tongs on your way in and fill it to your heart’s content.

Breakfast in bed

This breakfast (times two) was delivered to our room this morning. Perhaps because I’d been up since 5 am with jet lag and was starving, or perhaps because I wish all hotels served warm salmon-filled rice balls for breakfast, either way, it was the perfect start to eating in Japan.
