Dave and I went to see Food, Inc. tonight. Having read the books of the two main narrators of the movie Eric Schlosser (author of Fast Food Nation) and my personal hero Michael Pollan (author of The Omnivore’s Dilemma and In Defense of Food), much of the movie’s content was not new to me. That said, seeing images of cattle feedlots and commercial chicken farms helped reinforce a lot of my decisions about food. I also learned some new things, mainly with respect to the horrible way in which meatpackers and other food handlers are treated. Lastly, I got to put a face to a name that Pollan often mentions: Joel Salatin of Polyface Farm. If every farmer did what Salatin does, this country would be a greener place with a healthier populace. Someday I hope to taste some of his eggs.
If you eat food in America, see this movie.
